How to Make an Origami Lily Flower

Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. It is a fun way to use paper to create 3 dimensional shapes and figures. One of the more popular origami figures is the lily flower. This tutorial will explain the steps to make a lily flower out of origami paper. With a few simple folds, you can have a beautiful lily flower in no time.

Materials Needed

To make the lily flower, you will need a sheet of square origami paper. The size of the paper is up to you. The bigger the paper, the bigger the flower. You will also need a pair of scissors but you only need it if you want to trim the edges of the flower.

Steps to Make the Origami Lily Flower

The first step is to take the square sheet of origami paper and fold it in half. Make sure that the edges are aligned and fold the paper in half so that the two edges match. Then, unfold the paper and your paper should now have a crease in the middle. This crease will be used as a guide for the next fold.

The next step is to fold the paper in half diagonally. This is done by taking the top left corner of the paper and folding it down to the bottom right corner. Make sure that the edges line up and crease the paper where the edges meet. Then, unfold the paper and the paper should now have two diagonal creases.

The third step is to take the top right corner of the paper and fold it down to the bottom left corner. Make sure that the edges line up and crease the paper where the edges meet. Then, unfold the paper and the paper should now have four diagonal creases.

The fourth step is to fold the paper in half. This is done by taking the top edge of the paper and folding it down to the bottom edge. Make sure that the edges line up and crease the paper where the edges meet. Then, unfold the paper and the paper should now have two vertical creases.

The fifth step is to fold the paper in half again. This is done by taking the left edge of the paper and folding it to the right edge. Make sure that the edges line up and crease the paper where the edges meet. Then, unfold the paper and the paper should now have four vertical creases.

The sixth step is to fold the paper in half one more time. This is done by taking the top edge of the paper and folding it down to the bottom edge. Make sure that the edges line up and crease the paper where the edges meet. Then, unfold the paper and the paper should now have eight vertical creases.

The seventh and final step is to fold the paper in half one more time. This is done by taking the left edge of the paper and folding it to the right edge. Make sure that the edges line up and crease the paper where the edges meet. Then, unfold the paper and the paper should now have sixteen vertical creases.

Finishing the Origami Lily Flower

The last step is to make the petals of the lily flower. To do this, take one of the vertical creases and fold it in half. Then, fold it in half again. This will create a triangle in the center of the paper. This triangle is the first petal of the flower.

Now, take the next vertical crease and fold it in half. Then, fold it in half again. This will create the second petal of the flower. Repeat this process until all of the vertical creases have been folded in half twice. At this point, the lily flower should have eight petals.

Once the petals have been made, the origami lily flower is complete. You can trim the edges of the flower with a pair of scissors if desired. The origami lily flower is now ready to be displayed or used for decorations.

Conclusion

Making an origami lily flower is a fun and easy way to create a beautiful flower out of paper. With just a few simple folds, you can make a lily flower in no time. Once you have mastered the technique, you can make different variations of the flower such as adding more petals or using different colors of paper. Have fun and enjoy making your origami lily flower!
