Making an Origami Top Hat

Origami is a Japanese art form which involves folding paper into intricate shapes and designs. It has become increasingly popular, and many people enjoy creating origami figures or objects as a relaxing hobby. One of the more complex origami objects you can make is an origami top hat, which is a great way to impress your friends and family. In this guide, we will show you the basics of how to make an origami top hat.

Creating the Base of the Hat

The base of the hat is the most important part of the entire origami top hat. To make it, you will need a square sheet of paper. Begin by folding the square sheet of paper in half, making sure the edges match up nicely. Then, fold the paper in half once more, so that it forms a smaller square. Unfold the paper, and you should have a crease in the center of the paper.

Next, take the upper left and right corners of the paper and fold them together so that they meet in the center. You should have a triangular shape in the center of the paper. Now, take the bottom left and right corners and fold them up to meet in the center. You should have another triangular shape in the center. This will form the base of the origami top hat.

Folding the Sides of the Hat

Once you have formed the base of the hat, you can start to fold the sides. Take the top left and right corners and fold them down so that they meet in the middle of the hat. You should have a triangular shape in the center. Do the same with the bottom left and right corners. Make sure that the edges are all even and that the paper is folded neatly.

Now, take the top left and right corners and fold them in towards the center again, so that they meet the triangular shape in the middle. Do the same with the bottom left and right corners. You should now have a diamond shape in the center of the paper. This will form the shape of the top hat.

Finishing the Hat

The next step is to finish the hat. Take the top of the diamond shape and fold it down, so that it looks like the brim of a hat. Then, take the sides of the hat and fold them inwards, so that the hat looks like it has a brim. Finally, take the bottom of the hat and fold it up so that it looks like the top of the hat.

Your origami top hat is now complete! You can now decorate it with markers or coloured paper, if you like. You can also try making different sizes and shapes of top hats by using different sized squares of paper. Have fun!
