Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding that uses simple techniques to create beautiful and intricate designs. The origami soldier is one of the simplest models to make, and it’s a great way to get started with this fascinating craft. Below, you’ll find step-by-step instructions on how to make an origami soldier.

Gather Your Materials

To make an origami soldier, you’ll need a sheet of square origami paper. If you don’t have one, you can make your own by cutting a square from a larger sheet of paper. The size of the square will determine the size of your final origami soldier, so choose accordingly. For this tutorial, we’re using a 4-inch square.

Once you have your square, you’ll also need a pair of scissors, a ruler, and a pen or pencil.

Fold the Square

Start by folding the square in half diagonally. This creates a triangle shape. You can either use a ruler to help make precise folds, or you can fold by eye.

Next, fold the triangle in half again, this time along the long side. This will create a smaller triangle shape.

Now, open up the triangle and flatten it out. You should have a triangle with two flaps on either side.

Create the Face

Now it’s time to make the origami soldier’s face. Take the top flap and fold it down to create a triangle shape. This will be the soldier’s hat.

Next, fold the bottom flap up to create a square shape. This will be the soldier’s face.

Now, open up the top flap and draw a face on the square. You can use a pen or pencil to draw the eyes, nose, and mouth.

Fold the Arms and Legs

Now, it’s time to add the arms and legs. Take the top flap and fold it down. Then, fold the bottom flap up to create the arms and legs.

Fold the arms outward to create the soldier’s arms. Then, fold the legs inward to create the soldier’s legs. You can adjust the folds as needed to get the desired shape.

Add the Details

Now that the basic structure of the soldier is complete, it’s time to add some details. Take the top flap and fold it down to create a triangle shape. This will be the soldier’s hat.

Next, fold the bottom flap up to create a square shape. This will be the soldier’s face.

Now, draw a face on the square. You can use a pen or pencil to draw the eyes, nose, and mouth.

Next, fold the arms and legs outward to create the desired shape. You can adjust the folds as needed.

Finally, you can add any other details you’d like. You could add a flag or insignia to the hat, or draw a uniform on the body.

Your Origami Soldier is Complete

Your origami soldier is now complete! You can use your soldier to decorate cards, gifts, or other projects. You can also use it as a teaching tool to help others learn the basics of origami. Have fun, and happy folding!
