Bring some colorful cheer to your home with a rainbow-colored picture frame craft. This easy crafting project is perfect for a fun afternoon activity to do with the kids or even just for yourself. With some basic craft supplies, you can have a rainbow-colored frame to display your favorite photos or artwork in no time.
Gather Your Supplies
To complete this craft project you will need a few basic supplies. First, you will need a flat surface picture frame. These are often made of wood or plastic and come in a variety of sizes. You will also need a few colors of craft paint, a brush, painter’s tape, and a damp cloth. Optional supplies that you may want to include are a sealant and glitter.
Tape It Off
Once you have gathered all of your supplies, it is time to start taping off the frame. This will create a separation between the colors and make it easier to create the rainbow effect. Start by placing one piece of tape along the top edge of the frame, and then continue to place pieces of tape in a symmetrical pattern until the entire frame is taped off.
Paint It Up
Now it is time to start adding the colors to your frame. Begin by painting the top of the frame red. Allow for adequate drying time in between colors. Continue on through the colors of the rainbow starting with orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Once the frame is completely covered in color, allow it to dry completely before continuing.
Optional Finishing Touches
You may choose to add a few extra touches to your rainbow frame to make it even more colorful. For example, you may want to add a few lines of glitter to each color or use a sealant to help the colors last longer. You can also add small pieces of ribbon or fabric to the top of the frame or paint small dots or lines of a contrasting color to make the colors pop even more.
Remove the Tape
Once the frame is completely dry, it is time to remove the painter’s tape. Gently pull the tape away from the frame and use a damp cloth to remove any excess glue or paint. If you find that some of the colors have bled together, you may need to go back and touch up the frame with a small paintbrush.
Display Your Creation
Once the frame is completely dry and all of the tape is removed, it is time to display your creation. You can place your frame on a mantel or shelf, or hang it on a wall. You can also add a photo or artwork to the frame to make it even more special. No matter how you choose to display it, your rainbow frame will add a pop of color to any room.
